Christmas Day

Happy birthday Jesus!

Still no bids on my Valentine doily. I may have put it in my store too early. I am now making a non-holiday doily.

My husband came across a big stack of Magic Crochet magazines and some Decorative ones, too and some are in my store and the rest will be in there tomorrow. I didn't keep any of them because I have every single issue of MC and a lot of the DC. I don't know how many DC were published but I need to start working on getting them all, too!

As Promised

Finally finished and DH blocked and photographed my Frilly Valentine doily. Actually, I finished crocheting it at my summer home but DH didn't want to block it and then have to stuff it in a suitcase all the way to our winter home. Part of it was from a pattern but I added the edging and the bow and flower to spice it up a bit.

You Can't Always Get What You Want...

The poinsettia doily went for $9.99 on my eBay auction. Argh! That was a lot of work. I should do like some ladies do on there and find an easy pattern and make it in different colors with different embellishments. They get a lot of money for them.

Ta Da!

Nothing exciting but I'm glad I finally finished it. The pattern was easy to work and it wasn't supposed to have a center flower. It took me forever to find a poinsettia pattern and I made up the pattern for the leaves and didn't write it down. Argh!

Out Of My Slump

I finally came out of my crocheting slump and finished a Christmas doily. My resident blocker pineed it out last night and all there is left for me to do is sew the poinsettia on. The red would have bled onto the white no matter what trick I've tried over the years. Picture to come later.

Waffling

I've been waffling between doilies and a shawl. I have half the shawl finished. It has cuffs which helps it to stay on. It's a pattern from Bella Crochet. The Christmas doily is nearly finished and I already have another in mind which I also bought from Bella Crochet.

Crawling Out From Beneath My Rock

I finally crawled out from beneath my rock and started crocheting again. I started on a Christmas doily and didn't like the colors so I frogged it and now I'm working on one which the colors will be nice as long as they don't fade on one another during the blocking process. That's the problem when using white with dark colors.

In A Slump

I'm in a crocheting slump. I've been taking Chantix to stop smoking and it makes me nauseous all the live long day so I haven't crocheted in two days. I'm going to call the doctor and ask him to prescribe some anti-nausea medicine because I have 6 more weeks of taking it twice a day. I've tried saltines, ginger, Coca Cola and Emetrol. Nothing helps.

There are so many Christmas doilies and things I'd like to start on. I think I'll skip the Thanksgiving ones since I already did the Harvest Dance doily. We go to Arizona for the winter around Christmas and it takes a few weeks to get settled back in. This way, I'll have everything made and hopefully sold and then I can concentrate on Valentine's Day.

Starting On Halloween

I finally started making things for Halloween. The cat is from an old Workbasket magazine and I made up the doily pattern. It didn't lay as flat as I'd like but the cute cat detracts from that.

Harvest Dance

Robert finally blocked my latest doily. It's called Harvest Dance and it's 23" diameter. The pattern is from Annie's Attic Old Fashioned Doilies.

It's Finally Finished

I finally finished the fall doily I was working on. It is a simple design but had a lot of this and thats and thingamajigs and it is huge. As soon as my husband blocks it I'll post a picture on here.

HELP!!

I'm trying to make a cat out of thread with an arched back and the body needs to be about 2 inches long (not including the tail which needs to stand up straight). Does anyone know where I can find a pattern? I Googled it and can't find a pattern anywhere. If someone has a pattern for this or can come up with a design I would greatly appreciate it!

Firecracker

Someone please light a firecracker under my butt. I still am not finished with the last row. Hope to get in the groove and finish today.

Miss Know-It-All

Finally on the last row of a fall doily I've been working on after having to frog two rows because I was a Miss Know-It-All. lol Although, there was a few mistakes in the pattern but they weren't anything major. Pictures to come as soon as my resident doily blocker does his job.

I just relisted three doilies in my eBay store and drastically reduced the prices because I am sick of looking at them.

A lady on eBay is dying a special color thread for me for Fall/Halloween. She makes the most beautiful hand-dyed crochet thread. She uses Royale thread and her colors don't run. Check out her eBay page. It's in my links section on the right-hand side of this blog.

I Got Bit

Uh oh, the doily bug bit me. My reasoning was I need to crank out a few fall doilies and it's too hot to work on an afghan. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Fall Doilies

Two fall doilies have been started but were put aside to make an afghan for myself. They are over on my table calling my name but I must finish my afghan soon or I won't. The afghan is one I adapted from a baby afghan pattern and I made it before so there was no figuring this time because I inserted a note in the pages. It feels good to work with yarn for awhile but doilies are my favorite!

Befuddled

Did you ever have one of those days when you had to keep frogging over and over even though the design was simple? For some reason I couldn't get my brain in gear on this doily. I kept frogging and rechecking and after it was finished I realized I left off a picot. Argh! Here it is (minus one picot)

Beautiful And Rare

I saw this on eBay. How exquisite!

Blurry

This is the doily I made for my friend Connie. DH needs a new camera because everything comes out blurry. He should've taken the picture with my camera but you get the idea what it looks like.

Decisions, Decisions

I started and frogged 3 different doilies before I decided on the one I wanted to make for my little sister. Choosing a color palette is the hard part for me.

Happy, happy! I got my Yoko Suzuki book and it has beautiful patterns. She is so creative.

Wish we could get some rain. We haven't had any in 2 months and my husband has to water the gardens, plants and grass every day.

Sold To The Lowest Bidder

My red, white and blue doily sold on eBay tonight for a measly $9.99 Oh well. I've started on another one and it should bring a good price because I'm going to price it higher starting out and if they don't like it they can lump it! lol

We have a no kill box trap that DH baits with suet to try catching skunks that tear up all our grass. Last night a raccoon got in it so he took it to the woods and let it go. But first he let Ginger see it and when it growled at her she threw a major fit!

Discontinued Color

Just when you find a color you like they discontinue it. I am looking for Knit-Cro-Sheen Sage Green and found out they discontinued it in 2005. Rats! Does anyone know where I can get some? I've Googled it and can't find it except Amazon has one ball and they want $4.99 to ship it.

Break Time Is Over

Break time is over. I was having thread withdrawal!

What I Did On My Short Break

I finished this little girl's doll face purse yesterday.

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Something Different

I'm taking a short break from making doilies and working on crocheting some purses. It feels as though I'm using a shovel to crochet with after wielding a steel hook for so long.

It always seems to rain on Memorial weekend. It didn't keep the noisy neighbors away. They have a new dog that they don't leash and I'm afraid for Ginger. We aren't letting her out in her fenced area unless one of us is with her because that dog could jump her fence easily. She can lay on her pillow in the sun on the back deck and still be nosy. lol

After 5 Frogs It's Done

I finally finished this after having to frog 5 different times. I guess I'm not paying attention while watching TV. It measures 21" x 16" is called Rose Parade and the pattern came from Crochet World.

My Crocheting Supervisor

I can't read or crochet without Ginger my chihuahua up my butt! If I don't scoot over for her she pushes me with her back legs until I do.

CAL Ready For Sale

My husband does such a great blocking job! This is the CAL called "Wildflowers. It's from Magic Crochet.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's day! I sure wish I could have my Mom on this day. But she is looking down from heaven and she knows I love her.

My husband got me a beautiful card and flowers. We don't have kids together but I do have a daughter (his stepdaughter)

I finished my CAL doily and my husband blocked it yesterday so he'll take pictures today. Will post later.

Please Mr. Postman

My Lizbeth thread from HH Tatting is supposed to be here today. Hurry mail person! I want to play with my new thread.

Saturday, April 30, 2011

New CAL

My crochet group on eBay agreed the CAL was a messed up pattern so another lady picked a pattern for us. I had an idea for the flowers so I just bought a pile of thread from HH Tatting because I don't have enough thread! lol

Alleluia Christ Arose

Happy Easter to one and all. Hope you have a splendid day with friends and family.

Here We Go 'Round The Mulberry Bush

Okay, I had 3/4 of the CAL done and realized I had put all the roses on upside down. I cut it up and threw it in the garbage. In my last post I said my next doily would be one continuous color - I lied! lol You'd never guess I've been crocheting for 36 years what with all the trouble I get into.

Saturday, April 23, 2011

All The Roses

I'm doing a CAL with my Crazy4Crochet group from eBay. I'm doing the row I hate: 12 roses to put on! 4 down, 8 to go. It will be pretty when it's finished. Next doily I make is going to be one color and continuous. I tend to get weary of piece work and they end up being WIPs I may make something for myself :)

Designer I'm Not!

I've been trying to change the look of my page. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

The Frogging Has Ended For Now

I finally finished this a few days ago. Magic Crochet named it Tropical but their model was all white so I renamed mine Tropical Sea because it is aqua and lt. aqua. I have started figuring out the pattern for a windmill doily I bought from a lady because she wouldn't sell me the pattern. So far, so good. Oh no! I just looked at Crochet World's new issue and there is two pretty doilies in there I want to make. Does this mean goodbye windmill doily? lol I get the digital online version to Crochet World because I can't find it in the stores.

Mr. Froggy Went A Courting...

Have you ever had one of those days when you can't seem to keep your mind on your crocheting and you end up frogging mistake after mistake until it feels as if you'll never finish? I'm having that trouble with a doily. I have had to rip whole rows out 3 times! It's a simple design so what the heck is wrong with me?! lol We're going back to our summer home in a few days and I look at all my patterns and books here and wish I would have went through them all and scanned patterns I just know I'll have to HAVE. My scanner pooped out and we're going to wait until we come back in the fall to buy a newer model. It's an all-in-one and thankfully, the printer still works.

What Kind Of Hook Is This?

I found this crochet hook at an estate sale. I have no idea what country it is from and how old it is. Can someone help me out? I'd also like to know what it is worth. I realize some of the paint has worn off over years of use. Thanks!

Latest Perhaps Not Greatest

Floral Garden Table Runner. Up for auction on eBay. No watchers, no bids and only 3 page views :( It's 15" x 19"

What A Joke

Ha Ha A break from crocheting? What a joke! I just finished a doily yesterday and have started another one. My husband blocked one for me last night and I'll put it up for auction on eBay tonight. Pictures forthcoming.

Coffee Break

Time for a crochet break! Been crocheting nearly non-stop for days. I have another doily in mind but I don't have the colors I need :(

This doily is from Magic Crochet #82 and is called "A Chick Is Born" and was supposed to have Happy Easter in French embroidered in gold braid at the top but I put flowers up there instead and renamed it Spring Chick Easter doily to attract more buyers. I suck at embroidery! I hope I'm not doing something against the law by renaming the doily.

Another Sold

The Easter Blooms doily sold last night on eBay. Yay! I have a few things to sew onto the latest doily and then I'm done with Easter doilies. Maybe do some spring doilies or some Mother's Day doilies.

It's 82F and sunny today. At my summer home they're having a snowstorm. We may see some snow when we go back in the spring. I can't wait to get started sprouting seeds and smelling the lily-of-the-valley and lilacs bloom.

At Last

I finally sold another doily on eBay. It had been awhile but someone bought my Easter Splendor doily and she is bidding on my Easter Blooms doily. I'd better finish my last Easter doily before my luck runs out!

Easter Blooms

Easter Blooms Doily. Up for auction on eBay tonight. I just love the colors of the hand-dyed thread. I buy most of my hand-dyed thread from craftylady1951 and her store is Denise's Creative Crochet Corner. I've never had a problem with color bleeding with her thread.

Easter Splendor

This was a marigold pattern I modified and renamed Easter Splendor. Thank you to my husband for blocking it.

Cynthia's Surprise

This is the doily I made for my sister Cynthia. She lives in England. She can crochet but is not as experienced so every once in awhile I make her something. This is supposed to be a surprise so hopefully, she doesn't follow this blog! I have to mail it tomorrow.

Confessions Of A Doily Snob

Yes, I'm a doily snob! lol My family laughs about it. When I go into their homes I walk around flipping their doilies right-side up. I'm in such a habit of it I do it in thrift stores and antique stores wherever a doily is being displayed. My younger sister will say, "Uh oh, I figured I had it wrong-side up!" haha My daughter doesn't crochet but I've taught her which side is the right side for display.

Forgot To Take A Picture

I made this doily in white and light blue for my cousin. I sealed the mailing envelope before getting a picture so this is the pattern picture.

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Charming

This is from a pattern called "Charming" by Delsie Rhoades. DH did a great blocking job as usual but he needs a new camera. The one he has is an expensive one but it doesn't take good pictures because it has a flaw in the lens that makes one edge of every picture blurry.

Picture As Promised

I call this "Victorian Roses" I love my doily blocker!

One WIP Down - 19 To Go

I finished a WIP yesterday and my resident blocker did his thing. Pictures to come! Now, to tackle the other 19. lol
