Addicted To Doilies

I know how to crochet with both yarn and thread but I am addicted to doilies.  I keep making them even though I have a pile of them!

WIP WIP WIP

The filet crochet doily ended up in my WIP pile.  I decided to finish another WIP.  When will I ever

make up my mind?

Filet Crochet

I have been working on an  unusual looking filet crochet piece.  I don't like filet crochet but have made this one before ages ago and want to use different colors.  The main part is white but I haven't decided what color for the edging.  Should I use variegated or shaded or solid?  I want it to look classy.  It has seven motifs of which I have three finished.  I need to get a thimble because I have nearly poked a hole in the tip of my middle finger on my left hand.

Brag, Brag, Brag

It seems the only time I post on here is when I have completed a project.  That is because all I do is crochet and nothing much else to speak of.  lol

This is the latest:  Christmas Poinsettia designed by Cylinda Matthews.

I am making two other Christmas doilies.  I didn't make anything for fall, Halloween or Thanksgiving.  Usually Christmas items sell better.

Slacking Off

I've been slacking off.  I need to get some Christmas doilies and runners finished.  I am half finished with a doily that I am waiting for beads to come in before I finish.  In the meantime, I am making a small Christmas doily using vintage Christmas colors  I may edge it with Kreinik gold filament.

This is the last doily I made.  I'm not crazy about pineapples but I thought it was an unusual shape.  It is a Elizabeth Hiddelson pattern called "Square Dance" and it was made with AL light peach.

Pretty In Purple

HOTH:
Crochet Doily A-1083
12 1/2" diameter
Coats & Clark Book No. 317
Laces To Knit, Crochet & Tat

I think my older sister was hinting for this because purple is her favorite color.

If I don't sell it within a few months in my Etsy store I may send it to her.  I haven't sent my younger sister anything in a long time.  I'll give her something I've already made, too.  Recently, I sent my best friend of 47 years one.  She said she was going to frame it.  I've been meaning to do that myself with some others.

Oh No!

I am 3/4 way through making Star Of India doily and ran out of thread!  The pattern calls for 300 yards and I was using a ball with 350 yards.  The thread is not discontinued but it is the new style which is thinner - although it is size 10 - and has hardly any twist.  The dye lot would be different.  I wanted to make the doily in one color.  I may decide to make the edging in a different color.

It poured rain this morning.  We needed it but I had hoped it would last all weekend.  That way I could have a peaceful weekend without the three houses of noisy neighbors to the east of me.

I need to send a message somehow to get this blog fixed so it won't print in italics.  I have tried everything to no avail.

One Of These Days

One of these days I will sell a doily in my Etsy store.  Buy something people!  I am getting quite a collection.

For some reason our lake association had our fireworks show last night.  They should have had it tonight since today is the 4th of July.  My dog is not afraid of them.  She gets excited and runs back and forth on our deck.  Contrary to popular belief she is a Chihuahua that doesn't yap and shiver.  She is a good dog and beautiful and smart.

Have a great Independence Day weekend!

Keep Cranking Them Out

I don't know why I keep cranking them out because they never sell but I just love to crochet.
Maybe I should finish my afghan.
This one is from Crochet World August 2015 called "Teal Fantasy" but of course I had to change the
 colors.

We had a few storms this past week.  The electric went out for 5 hours a few days ago but we have a generator so at least I could have my coffee.

My Chihuahua Ginger is a lip reader.  I can mouth something and she knows what I am saying!  She is very good at picking up body language.  I guess what I'm saying is I think she is the smartest, cutest and most well behaved dog ever.

Vanity Fair

This lovely doily was hand crocheted by me. The color is Aspen Multi.

It measures 12" in diameter.

There was two sizes to choose from - a large one and a small one but I figured a way to combine the sizes to make it medium size.

I made myself finish this because I have a nearly finished doily from the newest issue of Crochet World.  I certainly do not need another doily in my WIP pile.

Our electric went out yesterday for 5 hours.  Thank goodness we have a generator.

Shades Of Southwest

This doily is called Catkins but I used Southwest colors and changed the edging to make the center.

I wish I had my patterns that are at my winter home because I am tired of looking at the ones I have here at my summer home.

I do have another doily in the works.  It is a vintage pattern and the center is curled up somewhat.  I hope it straightens up after it is blocked.

Something Fun To Do

I like seeing all the color combinations of the ladies in one of my Face Book crochet groups.

This was the May CAL.  It is called Summer Splendor.

I wish I could make my blog not print everything in italics.

Here it is May in Michigan and the temperature this morning is 63 F and is supposed to rain this

afternoon.  I wish it would warm up enough to plant my vegetable garden and a few more rose

bushes in my rose garden.  We may not plant as many vegetables as we usually do because my FIL is

in the hospital and my husband and I can't eat that many vegetables.  He always plants too much.

Usually we give some to the neighbor and set some in a box next to our mail box with free written on

the side.  They disappear quickly!

Friendship Doily
Pattern by Kathryn White

Waffle

I just frogged another doily because I changed my mind yet again.  I decided to make the May CAL from my crochet group on Face Book.  I have a few rows left and I promise I will finish it.
I ordered some yarn because I want to take a break from thread and make an afghan for my bed.

WIP, WIP, WIP

Nix the table runner. It went to the WIP pile. I saw an intricate doily I've wanted to make a long time so I started it and have put a few rows on it. It is turning out nicely.

The only problem with good quality thread is it twists up a lot when using it so I have to stop and untwist it periodically.

I'm now in the process of making a table runner with flower motifs.  I don't usually make anything from motifs but it is such a pretty pattern.

Quick & Easy Crochet May/June 1994

I'm nearly finished with another doily and hope to get it done quickly because I bought a new pattern book and thread and am itching to get started.

Spring in Michigan:  Snowing today.  Ugh!  We had a few warm days last week so my dog Ginger was able to get a few walks in.  She refuses to wear a sweater or coat so she only gets to take walks on warm days.  How spoiled is that?

Buried In Thread

I went downstairs to halfway straighten up my stash of thread and realized I have enough thread to last years.  I have some new thread on its way, though.  I need it to finish a doily I'm working on.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I'll have plenty of time to crochet after my operation which will be coming up soon.  The surgeon's office is supposed to call Tuesday with the date and time.  The operation is on my hip so no sitting in a chair for awhile but crocheting in bed is no problem as I have done it before.

Lacier Things

Firstly, I apologize for the italics.  For some reason all my posts are in italics no matter what I try.  Blogger.com is making me so aggravated over this.

Lately, all I have been using is size 10 thread.  The last doily I made felt so heavy so I am now working on a doily using size 30 thread.  The middle is white and I am waiting for some hand-dyed variegated thread.  For some reason you can find only solids in size 30 thread.  Every once in awhile I come across some vintage thread.

In The Interim

I just finished this yesterday.  It was something to do in the interim while waiting for my new size 30 hand-dyed thread to arrive.  You can find size 30 thread in solid colors but not variegated so I buy it from a wonderful lady on eBay.

It is called "Star Of Hope" and is a vintage pattern.

Nothing else out of the ordinary going on here.  Just trying to keep warm and the snow shoveled. Thanks for stopping by!

I Needed More Thread - Not!

I bought some 12 balls of thread off eBay last night. It was unopened balls of Aunt Lydia's, Royale and Traditions. One was a huge (2,400 yds.) ball of white thread that had most of it left on the ball. Price = shipping was $17.75 It was worth it because the big ball of white costs that much alone.

Good Morning

Good morning, afternoon and evening wherever you may be.

Please don't let me run out of the red thread I'm using for a new doily.  I found a ball of vintage Star thread in red in my stash.  It says 175 yards and it didn't seem as though I would need that much for a doily in the making but maybe not.  Fingers crossed!

This is the newest one.  It is Sunny Side from MC issue 100.  I did a few stitches differently and made the edging different to match the white edging on the inner spokes.  Originally, the outside edge was picots.  I'm tired of picots!

Pineapples

I normally do not make pineapple doilies because I don't care for them because there are too many patterns for pineapples out there.  But, this pattern was a little unusual and besides that I had some new Lizbeth size 20 thread that was perfect for this doily.  It sort of creates an optical illusion.

So far, January hasn't been too bad weather-wise.  I hope February isn't a deep freeze.

MY FIL has been in the hospital since September and they are moving him to a nursing home that is actually connected to the hospital building.  He needs to be weaned off the oxygen that is going through his neck where he had a tracheotomy before he can come home.

I'm nearly finished with another doily.  It is something to do before I decide what patterns I'm going to use with a few different hand-dyed balls of thread I recently purchased.

Five More Weeks

There is 5 more weeks until Valentine's Day so I figure I better jump on the bandwagon and make a heart doily to sell in my eBay store.  Only one other person has this one listed so far and hers is white and she wants $79.99  I am asking only $29.99 even though it is worth more because of all the hours I put into it.

It has been so cold and snowy here there isn't much to do so I sit and crochet all day.  I try to keep the carpets vacuumed and the floors mopped but my husband stomps into the house without wiping his feet.  I need to train him better!

I have a Chihuahua and she entertains herself watching the squirrels sneak into the bird feeder.  We keep them out during the summer but let them have access to the bird feeder during the winter so they can eat all the sunflower seeds they want.

Crochet - along

We did a CAL in a group I belong to on Face Book.  We could use any hook and any colors.  This is my result:
