Finally Finished Something!
I finally finished something. I have been in a crochet slump. I made a retro-looking throw pillow. I need to go through my gadzillions of patterns and start planning Valentine's Day projects.

Transition
It's that time of year again: We're going to Arizona for the winter. We leave tomorrow, spend the night at in-laws and fly to our house in Arizona Thursday. Can't wait for the warmth and sunshine! There will be a lot of yard work to do when we get there and hopefully, the watering system worked while we were gone so my roses and other plants didn't die. Most everything in the yard doesn't need watering but if you want roses you have to put in a sprinkler system to water if you're going to be gone 6 months. That's why we have a gravel yard (most people in Arizona do) instead of grass. If we ever decide to live year-round there I want grass!
I crocheted a centerpiece for my cousin's new wife and am now working on a doily just to have something to do until I get settled out west and check out my supplies there. I have so much supplies and patterns and books it's hard to remember what I have at what house.

Fingers Not Crossed Tight Enough
The beribboned centerpiece sold for only $9.99 Oh well.
I was working on 3 afghans but put that aside to make a gift for my cousin and his wife. They just got married a week or so ago and I saw that she loves doilies so I am making her one as a sort of wedding present.
Twelve days left before we head off to Arizona for the winter. Lots of things to take care of before we go. Can't wait to get to warmer weather in the "valley of the sun"!

All Work And No Play...
The beribboned Christmas centerpiece has a bid. Cross your fingers it goes up much higher!
I've been working fervently trying to get three afghans finished before Christmas. Hah! Who am I kidding? lol If I stay home some time I could get more done but DH likes for me to go places with him. I like going with him. I figure I can just add the ones I don't get finished in time to my ever-growing WIP pile!

Sweetest Day
I got up this morning to let Ginger out for potty and there was a huge vase of pink long-stemmed roses and a card from Robert for Sweetest Day! He is the best! I got him a card and gave it to him a few minutes ago.

Scary!
I had to spend the night in the hospital Wednesday for chest pains. They checked me out and said everything was fine. It was just angina and they prescribed some meds. My Mom died from a heart attack this year in March and my late Daddy had two heart attacks and my sister has heart problems. Whew!

Apple Crisp
I made a scrumptious apple crisp yesterday and today it is nearly gone! I love putting vanilla ice cream on it while it's still warm but alas, we didn't have any ice cream. Oh well, next time.

Two Down Two To Go
I finished two Christmas doilies yesterday. They are blocked and ready for pictures and eBay. I have two other doilies to finish today and it will be a good day to do it since it's raining. We haven't had rain in about 10 days so it's a nice change.
I get the nerve burned in my back tomorrow morning at 6:20am What kind of doctor schedules an operation at 6:20am?! I'll have to get up at 3:30 because we're leaving at 4:45 because it's a 1 hour 20 minute drive.

Oh Well
The Harvest Moon doily I crocheted went for only $15.72 on eBay. I'm glad it sold but what a disappointment because that was a lot of work and the pattern was so unique! Another lady has one up for auction and I'm going to watch and see what she ends up getting. Another lady sold one for $18 as a Buy It Now on eBay.

Rainy Cold Friday
It's been rainy and cold all day. August in Michigan is like January. I took Ginger for a walk and it started raining but she didn't care. Oh, but try to get her to go outside to poopoopeepee when there's barely a sprinkle and she acts as if she'll melt!
DH took FIL to Detroit to the doctor and they were gone all day so I was home alone. Peace and quiet - aaahhh!!!

Out The Ying-Yang
I have blueberries coming out my ears and cucumbers and beans coming out the ying-yang! lol I made a blueberry buckle last night and it was yummy. Stuck my nose over the back deck railing this morning and looked below and could see cucumbers, cucumbers, cucumbers, beans, beans, beans! DH will have to pick today. My decrepit back won't survive another picking this week.

High On The Hog
I picked a mess of wax beans from our garden yesterday. Today I snapped beans all morning and froze 6 quarts of them. The remaining 2 quarts I put in a pot with new red potatoes from our garden and put some smoked pork chops in the pot with them. That's what we're having for supper tonight along with sliced cucumbers from our garden in sour cream with cherry tomatoes from our garden on the side.
I just took a deep-dish blueberry pie out of the oven I made from the blueberries we picked the other day. We're going to be eating high on the hog tonight! lol

Googly-Eyed
I put aside the chenille sweater I've been working on (yeah, another WIP to add to my growing collection) because I need to get cracking on Halloween doilies. Plus, I'm having major doily withdrawal! I've been working with black size 10 thread and I'm getting googly-eyed. Black crochet thread is so hard to see and I can see good close up! I just have to wear glasses to see at a distance. I need to take the desk lamp out of the office and set it on the table beside my crocheting chair while working with the black thread.

I Found My Thrill...
...on blueberry hill.
We just picked 15 pounds of blueberries at a blueberry farm in an hour. Nothing like fresh Michigan blueberries. Pie, muffins, pancakes, pan dowdy... Oh, the possibilities! I'd better get baking! lol

Rounding The Bend
I have to crochet the sleeves and then I'm finished with the chenille sweater. I hope it doesn't look too quaint. If it does I'll just wear it around the house.
We watched more Earth grazers last night and they were spectacular! My Daddy used to watch all the meteor showers with me and we would have long discussions about all things scientific way into the night. I sure miss that.
DH is putting new shingles on the roof so he's headed out the door to do some before it gets too hot up there.
We're going to the thrift store in Hale even though we don't need another thing to pile up awaiting sale on eBay. But, there's always that feeling when you find something great that will sell for a high price.

Meteor Shower
We watched the Perseids meteor shower last night. The moon came up at 11pm so from then to 5am only the brightest ones could be seen. We did see some real nice Earth grazers especially from 10pm to 11pm Can't wait for the Leonids in November and the Geminids in December. We'll be in Arizona then and will go to the desert to see those.

There's No Place Like Home...
There's no place like home...there's no place like home...
Just got back yesterday from visiting my sister, brother and granddaughter in Ohio. We were only gone for three days and it feels like I was gone a month. That's probably due to the rigamarole we had to go through to get there. We had to drive 2 hours out of our way to drop DH's dad off at DH's brother's house. Then my sister has cats in the house and a dog. So, I had to sequester Ginger in a bedroom with a board across the frame so she could look out but not get out unless we had her on a leash. My granddaughter Lyla generously let us use her bed but it is so soft my bones are killing me. My brother Bruce, sister Julie and I went over to the old homestead to get the last of our late parents' belongings and that was somber. On the way home traffic was bad because there was two wrecks because it poured the rain from Toledo, Ohio to Richmond, Michigan. At two points along the way traffic was tied up because water was a foot deep on the road. Whew! There's no place like home!
P.S. I had a great time!

Company's Coming
I'm leaving tomorrow to visit relatives in Ohio for a few days. I also want to visit my parents' grave. So much to do just for a three day jaunt! We have to take Ginger to get her nails done. While we're in town we'll pick up a few things to take with us on our trip. I want to take a cooler so we can bring some foodstuffs back from Ohio that you can't buy here in Michigan like Queen City goetta (what's goetta you say?) and Kahn's wieners. We have to stop the mail for three days because we don't have any trustworthy neighbors to get it for us. If we were at our house in Arizona our next door neighbor would get our mail and put it on our kitchen table. They have a key.
My FIL is worried the car will break down on us. Ohio is NOT in another country! It's about a 7 hour drive. He was trying to talk us into taking a rental car and said he would even pay for it but it would be too much rushing around. Hey, since he was willing to pay $100 for the rental car do you think he'd be willing to shell out some gas money? ha ha
It's supposed to be sunny for a few days so maybe the vegetables in the garden will start to ripen. DH always plants way more than we can use so instead of throwing the extras away this year we'll try to find a food bank to give them to.
Man, I'm windy today! ha ha

Everything Seems Fine
The chenille yarn is holding up nicely with the frogging. Now, if Ginger my little spoiled chihuahua will let me crochet! As soon as she sees me sit in my "crocheting" chair she props up on me and squirms around until she has me scooted to the left side of the chair and goes to sleep. I use the left side to lay my yarn! (See the above picture!) DH says, "Make her get down" but Momma doesn't have the heart to deny her baby anything. She's a good dog and doesn't give us any trouble.

I Ought To Know Better
I ought to know better than to try someone's homemade sweater pattern. I followed a certain one exactly and it turned out so small it would fit an 8 year old. Obviously, when this person made it they either adjusted it as they went along or they didn't proof read their pattern. I should stick with proven patterns. I have to frog it all and am going to make a sweater from the Red Heart site. I hope frogging chenille yarn doesn't wreck it.

It's Lovely
My chenille yarn came today from Herrschners! I couldn't resist and did five rows on the sweater I am planning to make with it. It's burgundy and it is so plush. It will be hard to finish the afghans I'm working on because I want to make the sweater NOW! lol

Still No Doilies!
I have kept my word - I haven't crocheted any more doilies! lol I am working on a few afghans and have just finished making a tree frog for my Crazy 4 Crochet group on eBay. I want to make a Halloween doily so I better get cracking on these afghans and get at least one finished. Oh, but wait! I have an order of chenille yarn coming from Herrschners! They are phasing out their worsted weight chenille as Lion Brand did with theirs and the skeins are 99 cents each. I wanted to buy it all up! They still carry the bulky weight chenille. I'll have to make a sweater. Too many projects - not enough me.

Last One For Awhile
DH finally had a free moment and blocked this and took the picture today and it will be up for auction on eBay tonight. Doilies aren't selling well right now so I'll probably wait a month or so before I make any more. Around the last of August/first of September I'll start making Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas doilies. Holiday items seem to bring more money.
Anyway, this one is called "Periwinkle Star Pineapple" and is white and periwinkle and is 22 1/2" diameter.

New Favorite
I have a new favorite yarn: Vanna's Choice knitting worsted. It's so plush and soft and there are some unique shades to choose from. I used to always use Red Heart which I like a lot and will continue to use. For the 12-point round ripple afghan I'm crocheting I needed a silvery blue and happened to spot some at Hobby Lobby. It's wonderful to work with. I don't get to Hobby Lobby often since it's an hour away but I'll be looking at the color choices of Vanna's yarn online so I'll know what I want next time I get to Saginaw. I could order it from Herrshners but there's shipping costs to consider. Plus, what you see in a catalogue isn't exactly what you see in person. I may get too antsy to wait and order some anyway!
Fireworks
Maybe that's what I should light under DH's butt to get him to block the last two doilies I finished over a week ago! ha ha

New Crocheting Chair
I like to crochet in my bedroom while listening and watching TV so DH and I went out and bought a new swivel rocker. It's wonderful! Of course, my little chihuahua Ginger took over it immediately!
I've been working on a round ripple afghan to keep me warm in the coming months while sitting in my crocheting chair.

Happy Birthday Angel Daddy
My dearest Daddy Robert (Red) would have been 77 years old today. That's him getting the newspaper for my Mom. He was the most intelligent, caring and witty man. When he passed away December 15, 2006 that was the worst day of my life. Nothing will ever be the same. I love you angel Daddy more than the universe.

Read 'Em And Weep
That's what I always say when I finish a doily and throw it at DH just to be silly because I am so glad it's finished! This one is called Raspberry Bruges Lace and I used size 20 Lizbeth thread from Herrschners in white, light raspberry and medium raspberry. It's 16 1/2" diameter and I'm going to list it tonight on eBay.

Thrift Store Find
DH and I went to a thrift store and I thought I had hit the jackpot when my eyes spied a box full of Magic Crochet and Decorative Crochet magazines and Annie's Attic leaflets. I started scrounging through the box and they were all water damaged. Rats! But, I looked through them all and picked out the better of them. When I got them home I cut out the patterns I really wanted and put them in plastic sleeves. There was one pattern for a doily I had been looking for so all was not lost.

Going Around The Bend
This is a first for me: I was crocheting a doily yesterday and was wondering why it started curling up around the edges. I checked the pattern and realized I had totally skipped four whole rows of instructions! Duh! Guess I'm going bonkers!

Drool, Drool, Drool
The thread came today and it is almost too pretty to use! Can't wait to see how it crochets up. Miss Obsessed me had to turn around and buy 4 more balls of it in colors I just realized I need! tee hee

New Thread
HH Tatting has a new line of thread called "Lizbeth" and I ordered 14 balls of it. I had to restrain myself! There are so many unique colors it was hard to choose because I wanted them all. The thread is coming today. Yes!

Who Does The Measuring?
I wonder who measures the doilies that I see in pattern magazines? I have seen several patterns that give a finished measurement and the measurement is way off. For instance: I am making a doily that says the finished measurement using size 20 thread and a size 8 hook will be 14 1/2 inches. I am using size 10 thread instead and a size 8 hook and the doily is only going to be about 12 inches finished size. It should be larger than the stated size since I am using a larger thread. I've even seen patterns that call for size 30 or 40 thread and a size 10 or smaller hook and I'll substitute size 10 thread and use a size 7 hook and mine turns out about the same size or smaller. Of course I know better when I start the doily isn't going to be the stated size by looking at how many rows there are. Just a musing of mine.

Doily Factory
I'm cranking them out one right after the other. DH blocked another one for me yesterday and I've started another one. I'm on a roll! I went through every Magic Crochet magazine I have here in MI (the other half are in AZ) and decided on one. There are many other pattern books in my stash and others on my PC. When I need thread I just go shopping in my store = stash in lidded tubs! No need to go to the store since I have every color known to mankind. Well, I take that back - I was rooting through it all and realized I was out of Frosty Green so I bought some yesterday. Whew!

...And Another One Bites The Dust
I have finally learned my lesson. I am not buying any more hand-dyed thread from a certain lady on eBay who shall remain nameless. I have no trouble with the hand-dyed thread I get from Denise but this other lady apparently doesn't rinse her thread good. I tried the "spray with cold water" technique and it didn't work. The colors still bled. Can you tell I'm mad? Hah! Another doily I worked hard on ruined.
Tuesday, May 5, 2009
Light A Fire
I need to light a fire under DH's butt. I have two doilies that need blocked! ha ha I used hand-dyed thread so I hope they don't fade. I told him to pin them out dry and then spray them with ice cold water to set them instead of dampening them first. Fingers crossed.

Kickin' Cowgirls
Eastward Ho!
We got back here to our summer home at 1am today. Whew! There's so much to get caught up on. I did manage to finish a doily while riding in the car when it wasn't my turn to drive. We'll go back to flying back and forth since DH decided not to take more store inventory with us than is listed. I forgot what all crochet supplies I have here so it will be fun digging through everything.

I Got Side-Tracked
I finished the one doily and am 3/4 way through another one. I had to stop working on it for a day so I could crochet something for the Spring Swap with my eBay group C4C. That is finished now I can resume working on the doily. DH is waiting until we get to Michigan to block and take pictures. They'll go up for auction probably the first week of May.

Who Am Fooling?!
Well, we all know I wasn't going to finish the WIP afghan, didn't we? lol I did do a few rows but then saw a doily I wanted to make so I am halfway finished with it and will start another when I'm done. Have to have something small to crochet on while on the road trip back to my summer home. Does that sound like a good excuse to you? ha ha

Finish What I Started
I am so bad about having WIPs I'm on the last row of a doily and was wondering what doily I could make next. DH suggested finishing a WIP next. There's an afghan I only have four rows left on so I guess I'll finish that only because it's taking up a lot of room on the shelf! lol
Sunday, April 12, 2009
A Lesson Learned
I made a beautiful doily using hand-dyed thread and white. When DH dampened it to block it the colors ran onto the white. Aaarrgghh!! Now I can't sell it. I'll have to remember not to dampen doilies before they are blocked if I'm using white with red, dark blue or hand-dyed thread.

Peanuts
The Wild Irish Rose doily sold for $13.00 on eBay last night. Peanuts! Some people sell doilies on there for $30 and $40 and they are plain looking and pretty much basic. I guess I'd better start making ho-hum doilies if I want to make any money.

On The Back Burner
I've put yet another doily on the back burner. It is a swan doily that I had been working on a few days. When some hand-dyed thread came in the mail yesterday I just had to start some Easter doilies! You can't let beautiful thread languish on the shelf!

Finally Buckled Down
I finally buckled down and finished another doily yesterday. DH is going to block it for me today and then it will most likely be up for auction on eBay Sunday night. Pictures to come! I've been interested in an author whose books I've never read and have been getting them from the library and reading one each day. That is why I've been slacking off on my crocheting. Normally, I can make a doily in 3 to 4 days.

Nirvana
Walgreen's put their Easter candy out today. Brach's Bunny Basket Eggs - yes!! I restrained myself and only bought 3 bags. I'll probably stock up because they are my favorite candy of all time. I've been eating them since I was a little kid.
Didn't Plan Ahead
Rats! I am almost finished with my pineapple doily and realize I may not have enough coral thread to finish. I didn't realize the doily was going to be so large since I used a size 5 hook and size 10 thread instead of the smaller hook and thread that was called for. 300 yards seemed to be enough coral thread. Now, I have ordered more and hope the dye lot is not too far off as to be noticeable. If it is I'll finish it and keep it for myself.
In the meantime, I have started another doily. Can't be idle!

For The Love Of Pineapples
I'm currently working on a pineapple centerpiece. The colors are ecru and coral. It's refreshing to use a different color than I usually use. I was looking through completed projects and found a pineapple table runner I forgot I had so it went up for auction last night. My crochet club is having an 8 x 8 square swap so I've been working on those, too.

Delusions Of Grandeur
Maybe I think I'm a good crocheter and really aren't but I think the Lavender Swirls doily is a stunner. I can't believe nobody is watching or bidding on it. It's different than the SOSDD you see on eBay that gets big bids.

In The Interim
While I am deciding what project to do next I whipped up this doily. It's called Victorian Valentine Hearts and is 11 1/2" diameter. The colors are ecru, pink and light pink. You've heard me say this before but after the next doily I do (yes, I am making one as we speak!) I'm going to make a few other things.
